At the Jonathan Coulton concert tonight: [Background: The opening act, Paul and Storm, got everybody making pirate noises to go along with one of their songs. The audience picked up on this way too enthusiastically and started going "Arrrrrr!" at every remotely appropriate moment. Paul called us all easily excited nerds, which was absolutely accurate. Then Jonathan Coulton came on. Eventually, he did "Skullcrusher Mountain."] Jonathan Coulton: "I've been patient, I've been gracious / And this mountain is covered with wolves / Hear them howling, my hungry children…" Audience: Aroooooooooooo! Coulton: Wow, first it was pirates, now wolves. It sounds like the pirates and the wolves are fighting. Audience: Arrrrrrr! Aroooooo! Arrrrrrr! Arooooo! Coulton: [Laughing.] Someone's going to make this into the geekiest movie ever. Wolves vs. pirates. It's already like a really cheap movie — you can't see any of the effects because it's all happening off in the dark, and it's just this guy standing here describing the action. Look, the wolves are winning! Audience: Arooooooooooo! Coulton: Oh no, now the pirates are winning! Audience: Arrrrrrrrrrrr! Coulton: I have no idea what all you people are even talking about right now. Random audience member: Write a song about it! Coulton: Oh, okay. Hang on a second. *ponders, noodles around on guitar* Oh. No, I can't do that. Instead, here's a song about math. I'm-a feelin': amused
