Out of curiosity, has anyone out there read Karen Miller's "Innocent Mage" trilogy, also known as the "Kingmaker, Kingbreaker" series? I'd never heard of her, but her latest series launch, Empress, showed up in the mail yesterday, so I started reading it last night when I finished the book I'd been reading. My first impression was that it reminded me of Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel books, in that the writing style instantly annoyed me, but the characters instantly intrigued me. It also instantly reminded me of Richard Adams' Maia. I'm going to stick with it for a bit and see where it goes, but I'm curious what other people think of her. You know, people who actually keep up with what's going on in the fantasy field these days, and don't come around to stuff like the Carey books five years later than anyone else. I'm-a feelin': curious
