Yesterday was a terrible, terrible day at work. Nothing was working, nothing got done, and by the end of the day, I was so frustrated that I went home, had dinner with Chris and
attackmonkey, and then went straight to bed with a book and the covers pulled up over my head in an attempt to shut out the world. Not to mention to get warm in the bitter, toe-losing cold. Book therapy and, once he got home, Cass hug therapy, made everything more or less better.
Weirdly, though, on my way home, I got a text message from our main work number that said simply "PLEASE CALL." Given how the day went, I assumed there'd been some sort of horrible meltdown/emergency after I left. But I had no idea who sent the message — we have a main line and then everyone has phone extensions and their own lines. I'm not even sure how someone would send me a text message from the main line. But I dutifully called, and tried extensions until I reached Editor Josh, who was still there at 7 p.m. largely because he'd been hanging out playing
Rock Band earlier. He asked around among people who were still there, and apparently no one had sent the message.
This makes no sense. Even if there had been an A.V. emergency, anyone in the office would have just asked Josh for help, since he was still on-site. Alternately, if they'd wanted me and they had my number, they would have called, not texted me. (There were no voice messages for me.) And again, how do you send a text message from a landline? It's just all a big pack of weird.
There were no massive emergencies waiting when I got in, and no one's rushed up to me saying "Why didn't you call last night?" I wish they would. Mysteries bug more than interest me. And of course I still have this accusing all-caps message on my phone. PLEASE CALL. Okay… call WHO?
